Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a “collaborative conversation to strengthen a person’s motivation and commitment to change.” While MI was originally developed as a counseling technique, it’s applicable to all situations where people interact with each other. MI can defuse conflict, improve clarity of thought, and bring about meaningful change. MI can be beneficial in all walks of life, both personal and professional.
I am experienced in teaching MI to people at all experience levels. Depending on your needs I can work with individuals to achieve a basic awareness of MI or to achieve proficiency.
Classes cover the following aspects of Motivational Interviewing:
- Definitions and Spirit of MI
- Micro skills (open ended questions, affirmations, reflections and summary statements)
- Engagement
- Focusing
- Evocation
- Planning
- Methods to put all the skills together, recognize when to be in each process, and to transition smoothly between them
Introductory sessions run from ½ day, 1 day or 2 days. Multiple sessions can be scheduled to assure participants are on a path toward proficiency in MI. Please contact me for more information on how Motivational Interviewing may enhance your organization.
Acting ethically means so much more than not stealing the pens. We make decisions each day that reflect on our moral and ethical character. The problem is that we rarely take time to reflect on these decisions. Instead, most of us go through life acting and reacting within flexible ethical limits that are unconsciously impacted by our own self-interest.
½ Day Course:
- Introduction to Ethics
- Ethical thinking
- Ethical action and moral courage
1 Day Course:
- Introduction to Ethics
